I'm currently running a 32-bit version of Debian 6 on VMware Workstation 9.0.1 with VMware Tools installed on Windows 7 64-bit.

It appears that one time out of five, when I try to drag something (Highlighting text, moving files), the left mouse button of the guest OS gets stuck. The only way I have found to fix this is to drag a file from my Windows desktop into the guest OS. I also have VMware Fusion 5 on Mac OS with the exact same Debian image and I never get this problem there.

I tried what was proposed in this solution but to no avail: Mouse button gets "stuck" down in VMWare guest OS

Anybody has any idea how to fix this? It goes without saying that it is very irritating and interrupts my work constantly.

EDIT: 3 weeks after asking this question, I am at wits end with this product. Updating to 9.0.2 also didn't fix the problem. Is there any alternatives I can use?

Yes. However when I come back to the VM, the mouse inside the VM is still stuck in the state prior to release. –  Sefam Apr 19 '13 at 2:05
