I ve been trying to make syslog listen in port 514 for the past 2 days but in vain. All am trying to achieve is do a logging in syslog using sysloghandler in python on (localhost, 514) socket. The solaris version is 5.10 The syslog process seems to be running fine. I enabled log_from_remote by changing the config svccfg -s svc:/system/system-log setprop config/log_from_remote = true and by doing a restart on syslog service. When I checked netstat after this

    -bash-3.00# netstat -a | grep syslog
          *.syslog Idle

It does list the process but still it does not seem to listen in port 514

With the pfiles command I checked the details of the syslog process

    -bash-3.00# pfiles 24828
    24828: /usr/sbin/syslogd

       4: S_IFCHR mode:0000 dev:280,0 ino:6238 uid:0 gid:0 rdev:41,39
       5: S_IFCHR mode:0600 dev:280,0 ino:50855940 uid:0 gid:3 rdev:97,0
       6: S_IFREG mode:0644 dev:29,132 ino:7107 uid:0 gid:0 size:476
       7: S_IFREG mode:0644 dev:29,132 ino:7084 uid:0 gid:3 size:0
       8: S_IFCHR mode:0000 dev:280,0 ino:5014 uid:0 gid:0 rdev:21,6
       9: S_IFDOOR mode:0777 dev:288,0 ino:0 uid:0 gid:0 size:0
          O_RDWR FD_CLOEXEC door to syslogd[24828]

The "/devices/pseudo/udp@0:udp" does not seems to list any socket on localhost:514. And the netstat seems to list no other process operating on port 514 and there seems to be no error logs after starting the syslog so am assuming syslog is starting fine.

Could any of you please help me to find the solution to this problem? Many thanks in advance!
