I have a computer with a Logitech Quickcam 9000, and I would like the camera to take pictures once every minute or so - maybe only when there is motion, if possible.
Is there some free software, that will let me do that?

Motion. A few years ago I built a surveillance system for a small store using four cameras directly connected to one server in a corner running Motion. Worked perfectly.

From the same website (Nimisis.com) there's some webcam software called Mugshot that can face detect / motion detect and if so doing will email you, so if you're computer is stolen, you still have the evidence. Costs $8.

Flix is an application that uses a digital camera or webcam to create time-lapse movies. Still pictures are captured every few seconds, minutes or hours (whatever the user decides), then they are merged together as frames in a time-lapse video. Some cool effects can be achieved this way. Below is a video a Flix customer made during a road trip and here's an amazing video, originally in hdtv format and not made using Flix, but good for ideas.
