I am using syslog in my application, I have created a rule in syslog.conf file to log data from my application in to specific file. This is working correctly, but it is also writing to the standard syslog file, which I dont want it to do. How do I make it stop writing in the standard syslog file and solely into the custom log file?

It would be helpful if you told us the service your application is logging to (localN) perhaps? Also include your current syslog.conf. You probably need to tweak the existing rule to exclude the your specific service. BTW, are you sure you are actually using syslog, and not rsyslog, or syslog-ng? – Zoredache Apr 25 '13 at 22:17
I am using rsyslog, btw I was able to get the required output by tweaking the conf file. Thanks for the reply. – user2321520 Apr 29 '13 at 20:42
