Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

What should I check to find the problem? I have 2GB RAM free when I check task manager. Kaspersky is not performing scanning during the period.

When look at task manager, it only shows around 270K reads, which is normal in my experience, only the page faults is abnormaly high.

The PC:
Windows 7
Quad Core i7 processor
8 Gb RAM
Kaspersky AntiVirus 2012

The avp.exe found many page faults it the one run under "system" user. not the one run under active user.

remarks: It is normal that avp.exe have one instance run under "system" and one instance run under active user.

It happen again, so i get some screens as follow

restart timetaskmankavlogkav no task

similar, but more severe question have been asked in Kaspersky Forum but unanswered. by the way KAV2012 does not have the concede button.

Did you ask Kaspersky? Their support is very good! And can you explain the issue? What does freeze mean? And why do you think this is by Kaspersky? More details are needed please :) –  Dave Apr 29 '13 at 8:13

Not in Hong Kong i think, I purchase a 2012 box set at Feb 2012, that comes with 2012 CD and they give me a 2011 license, and refuse to answer 2012 question, I can't even log a case in their system. They would only answer it if it is 2011 version, I have made 5 complaints and they still refuse to correct it. What i mean freeze is that i can't move even my mouse, after 2 minutes, i got my task manager open, then after 10 minutes, i finally get my IE launched and post the question here. as i have said, the Kaspersky is having 2 million page faults in probably 3 minutes after boot up. –  Antony Lee Apr 29 '13 at 12:11

Right, but after a reboot it is solved? Does this happen every time you boot up your computer, or only after a certain time period, or using a certain program? –  Dave Apr 29 '13 at 12:15

that's not the point, I am asking what should i check i think, do you have any suggestion beyond reboot? by the way, my ISP complain that freaking software KSN keep pinging their gateway and cause it malfunction. I would really regret on buy that software. Although i did love the cloud features KSN introduce. –  Antony Lee Apr 29 '13 at 12:18

You'll get better responses if you don't tell people they're missing the point. I'm not the one here asking questions so please realise the questions have a reason behind them! :) It is very important to know if the reboot fixes it, if the fault is random. It could be a config issue in Kaspersky, or a conflict... So, when does the issue occur? Does rebooting solve it? If so, how long after reboot does it occur again. If you leave your machine (after reboot) alone for 1 hour, does the problem occur then? –  Dave Apr 29 '13 at 12:20

The most recent patch Tuesday (April 9th) released patch KB2823324, which has caused issues with Kapersky anti virus. Make sure you either uninstall it, or install the hotfix KB2840149.

Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

Thanks for help first, but the symptoms are not the same, I forgot to post my Kaspersky version. the patch KB2823324 does installed on the computer. but i can confirmed that the Kaspersky didn't show license expired, and chkdsk utility didn't start, by the way, the KB2840149 was also installed. –  Antony Lee Apr 28 '13 at 15:58
