I had a disk failure yesterday and now I am in big trouble.
My OS is Ubuntu Studio with XFCE and I was just partially able to recover my home folder from the dead hdd (I had backups of all the data).
The situation is: I have copied .gnome2_config and .config there, don't have all the bash*. The session manager shows up, and I am able to insert the password, but when I connect it just restart the session manager showing the login page again.
Given that I can login to console, I was then thinking of using some dpkg-reconfigure to rebuild .bash_profile, etc...
Can I do that? Which is the target package (XFCE/Ubuntu specific) ? Is there another command to "re-build" standard and necessary files like those?
EDIT: to be more specific, according to this I think I am missing .xsession, .profile and the login brings to nothing (I am so noob on this!! :))
