I am trying to port a custom linux distro to cloud. For this linux, we don't use X. We have a separate graphics/windowing system. It needs a framebuffer. Most clouds don't support any emulated framebuffer devices.

So I stumbled across this, http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/FB_VIRTUAL.html

I am able to load it with a kernel command line option video=vfb:

But I can't set resolutions, or bpp etc. I tried many things like setting vga mode - vga=791

or video=vfb:640x480-16

But nothings works. I get a default configuration of framebuffer.

What are the command line params using which vfb could be configured for a resolution and bpp ?

Unless some guru comes along, I'm afraid that you might just have to go and examine the kernel code. –  harrymc May 9 '13 at 12:37
