My aim is to protect my data of any failures. So I choose RAID1 as the best option. Now, I have the fallowing: - DELL Optiplex GX520 - 2 PORT SATA SERIAL ATA PCI SLOT RAID CARD LOW PROFILE BRACKET for HARD DRIVE HDD - windows server 2003 R2 - windows XP pro - 2 x HDD 2TB each
My presumption is that I have to do the following steps: 1. Connect both HDD to Raid Card 2. Create the RAID1 from the given options that come with RAID card 3. Install windows server 4. Go out and have a beer :).
Well, I did step 1 and 2 but I cannot do step 3. Windows cannot recognize my HDD through this RAID card.I tried with F6 button while I am installing windows but I will need some drivers that I don't know where to find and also FDD that is ridiculous and I don't have it.
So, I decided to connect one of the HDD to motherboard (I have only one SATA connection on the motherboard) and the other one to RAID card. I took the fallowing steps: 1. I installed windows server on the HDD that is connected to motherboard. I made this drive dynamic. My next step was to connect the second HDD to RAID card and make it dynamic as well but I stop here and because I read some article on the web for the dynamic disks and why is not good to use them so, that made me rethink this scenario.
I don't know what to do from now on! Please help!
In two words I have to choose between:
One HDD on the Motherboard and second HDD on RAID card. Windows server that makes software RAID1. This way is not good because I have to use dynamic drives and I cannot use the full capacity of my hardware RAID card. or
Both HDD connected to RAID card and windows installed on one of them somehow. This is the best option but I cannot make it!
