I'm totally new to Jenkins, so please bear with me. Basically, I would like to setup Jenkins to run the /Applications/Chess.app program.

I select "Build/Execute shell", and put these commands into the command box:

echo "Hey there!!!" > /Users/Me/log.txt

open /Applications/Chess.app

The 1st command worked just fine. I saw a log.txt file generated with "Hey there!!!" as its contents.

However, the 2nd command didn't seem to work. The chess app didn't execute, and I got this error in Jenkins' Console Output:

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/Chess.app

Note that if I manually type $open /Applications/Chess.app into the console, then the chess app was executed without a problem.

I've been searching the web for the whole day yesterday, trying all sorts of stuff I could get my hands on, but I couldn't just get Jenkins to execute /Applications/Chess.app.

What am I missing here? Would some body give me a hint? Thank you in advance for your help.

This sounds like a permissions error. Can you confirm that the execution bit (chmod) is set for the user that is running the Jenkins process? –  borrrden Jun 12 '13 at 1:39
