I have a user that edits XML files in Excel. When she tries to check out XML files her IE8 crashes. XLS files work fine. I changed the default program association in Windows 7 so that Excel is the default program for XML files. I've also tried:

  • Reset IE settings to default
  • Deleted IE temp Internet files and cache
  • Installed the 2007 Office Data Connectivity Components
  • Replaced the OWSSUPP.dll file with an older version in the Office14 directory
  • Ran a repair install on Office 2010
  • Ran IE as a different user to see if same result occurred
  • Tried IE compatibility view

Does anyone have any ideas?

when you "rna IE as a different user" did you just use Runas, or did you log into the computer as the different user? Does it behave properly if you start IE without any add-ons loaded? If the use goes to another 7/IE8 machine, does it work properly there? – Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Jun 14 '13 at 20:29
I ran it logged into a different users account. I can check out the files fine on my computer (IE9 & Office 2010). The user is using IE8 because some of the web applications she uses requires IE8. The user had Office 2007 and was upgraded to Office 2010 if that makes a difference. – 0xDECAFBAD Jun 14 '13 at 21:21
