I did a windows 8 refresh. All the desktop programs were removed. I had 5 games in origin installed. Now, it asks me to download again. Is there a way to avoid re download?

Check for Program Files present in Windows.old folder. Otherwise, you're out of luck – Sathya Jun 18 '13 at 12:00
did you perform a full format during this "refresh" ? – MDT Guy Jun 18 '13 at 14:47
I clicked on refresh from advanced startup. It created a windows.old folder. As I was checking out the program files, windows updated. Now, the program files folder is not present in windows.old. Any other way to recover? – user2495909 Jun 18 '13 at 17:17
Refresh only restores Metro apps, not desktop ones, and all the steps that will be carried out are clearly displayed beforehand. A list of removed apps is saved on your desktop after the refresh is finished to let you know which programs were removed. I don't think there's any way to recover them. – Karan Jun 18 '13 at 17:38
