Every time i try to open my external hard drive, there will be a message saying windows explores is restarting. All tabs will be closed and i will not be able to access the files on the said hard drive. It's a brand new sea gate 500 GB. This only happened after my colleague used my hard drive to take a file. Before that, everything was fine. i have tried scanning for viruses and removed them.

There might still be malware present. Also try running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. – Karan Jun 20 '13 at 2:04

i'm not a computer expert, so i have no idea regarding your suggestion. if possible can you give a step by step recommendation. TQ – Ejay Jun 20 '13 at 2:28

Which version of Windows do you have? Edit your question and add a tag for it. If you're using XP, simply open a Command Prompt window and type that command. If you're using Vista+, search for cmd in the Start Menu/Screen search box, right-click cmd.exe, select Run as administrator, then enter that command at the prompt. – Karan Jun 20 '13 at 2:30

Did he run sfc specifically? Obviously there's something wrong with it. – Karan Jun 20 '13 at 2:38
