I assembled my own rig a little more than a month ago and have been using it without much problems since. It always irked me that my motherboard never gives me a POST beep. Since it had been about 7years since my last PC, I just thought they got rid of it.
After having looked into the AMI UEFI beep codes, I'm convinced that my motherboard should be giving a single short beep to indicate successful POST but does not do so..
This may also be connected to the other issue that I'm having with my motherboard in that it never shuts down completely. I've tried shutting down on Ubuntu 12.04 as well as Windows 7 and while the monitor goes blank, the CPU and case fans do not power down. Neither do the USB devices sometimes.
I have noticed that on rare occasions, when i choose to restart the system - when there are updates and such, the computer actually shuts down (completely).
I have also noticed that during restart, my PC actually turns off all hardware (i think..fans power down fully) first and then boots back up. Is this expected? Could this also provide some hints as to what is wrong?
My hardware is as follows
CPU : Intel i5 3350P
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2X4 GB) MOBO: PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3
MOBO : ASRock Z75 PRO3
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 500 GB HDD SATA
GFX : HIS 7850 Fan 2 GB GDDR5 PCI-E Graphics Card
