I currently have 2 500GB drives configured with RAID0 that boots Windows 7 and an additional 2TB data drive with a single partition for storing files. I am trying to dual boot my current Windows system with the Scientific Linux CERN distro which is essentially Scientific Linux with some changes, which is in turn based on RedHat. I've tried dual booting this system in the past but settled for a different designated Linux machine due to problems with installing a boot loader on the RAID0 array.
I need SLC on this particular machine, however, so I shrunk my data partition on the second 2TB drive to only 1.2TB and created a 160GB partition at the very end of this drive. Here I installed SLC and used the installer to put the default boot loader on the 2TB drive MBR thinking that I could simply manually select whether to boot Windows or SLC by selecting the appropriate drive from the boot menu in the bios. The install went fine, however, upon selecting the 2TB drive from the boot options, SLC fails to boot and instead the system hangs, saying "Geom Error_". Any ideas for how to remedy this or suggestions of a better configuration?
