I just connected an old monitor to my laptop so I can use both, but the old monitor is quite dim and I can't get it brighter with the menu options (they're already at 100%).

My laptop is an HP G60 running Windows 7, and the second monitor is an LG Flatron L1511S. They're attached with a VGA connector. My graphics card is a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express.

I tried going to Appearance and Personalization > Display > Adjust Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > Color Management > Advanced > Calibrate Display and going through the calibration on the second monitor. It didn't improve the brightness on it, but while I was using the sliders the screen would flash brighter for a second and then go back to being dim. So it looks like the monitor is capable of getting brighter, but I don't know how to keep it bright. Any advice?
