I have a laptop running Win7 and a Raspberry Pi running raspian that is configured as a NAS server. The RasPi has a 2 TB HDD attached.
What I'd like to do is let the RasPi serve as a way to backup the data from my laptop. I'd like to be able to retain multiple versions of files. Also, I'd like to be able to mark files/directories on the laptop as "Archived" and have them removed from the laptop but retained as part of the backup.
Should I ever want to restore any archived data, it'll be available.
I've been working on a PHP script that would keep track of it all with the help of a MySQL DB. But I just got to wondering if there was an easier/better way.
I thought that RSync might be able to help -- but didn't know how well it would deal with the multi-versions or the archive issue.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I can use?
