I have a problem with my printer. I have a Canon Pixma IP4000 and I am getting inconsistent print results. Some times it will print just blank pages. Other times it will only print parts of a page. If the page includes a color image with surrounding black text it will print the image in all its colors but not the black text. But if this text includes hyperlinks that are colored blue, it will print the color image and also the blue hyperlinks that are in the text.
Just take a look at the images below and you will understand what I'm talking about.
As seen on screen:
Here's a Wikipedia article as seen in the web browser. Click on the images to see larger versions.
Here's a printer friendly version of it.
Here's the same article pasted in Word 2010.
Here's the same article rendered as a PDF file through Wikipedia tools and open in Adobe Reader.
Now this is what it looks like when I print them. I scanned these just to showcase the results.
As seen when printed:
The printer friendly version printed from web browser:
The printer friendly version copied and pasted to Word 2010 and then printed:
If you zoom in on these ones you will notice a grey line framing the image. That's the only thing that was printed, besides the image itself. I got the same result when I printed the rendered PDF file from Adobe Reader. I tried using different software just to rule out that this has anything to do with the software used for printing.
The original version with blue hypertext, copied and pasted to Word 2010 and then printed:
Here's another example where I used a PDF file from Microsoft (MS 2012 Citizenship Report).
This is the Contents page of the document as seen on screen.
Here's another page of the document as seen on screen, with a picture of Microsoft CEO.
And here's what it looks like when printed.
So as you can see on this example, everything seems to be fine. I mean everything is printed the way it appears on the screen, including the text in black.
What is the reason for this strange behavior? Is the printer dying on me now?
This started out today, I just wanted to print out a PDF document. The document itself is from an agency and contains only black text. When I printed it, the text was pale blue. I checked the ink cartridges and realized that I'm out of ink. So immediately replaced the two empty ink tanks - the black (bci-3e bk) and the yellow (bci-6y). I tried again but it printed out blank pages instead.
After playing around with cleaning and deep cleaning options in the driver software I finally got it to print again. But the printed text was blue once again. As if I never replaced the ink. So I tried printing some other documents, as noted above, and realized that they didn't come out right either.
That's it? It's time to spend some money on a new printer?
