I use Skydrive desktop app to backup some files on my computer. Each time when I reconfigure and relink Skydrive to the folder to be synchronized, it will take nearly five hours to check whether there are files to be uploaded or downloaded - even nothing is changed on both sides.

My Skydrive has 25 GB of space and is almost full, so it is reasonable to take some time to check - but not for five hours. During those hours, it seems to be downloading some unknown data from the Skydrive cloud server. I don't know where the data are stored on my local disk.

Could someone tell me how Skydrive compare the files stored on local disk and on the cloud? Is there a way to shorten the synchronizing time? Dropbox does a better job and is much quicker than Skydrive, but I don't know the reason.
