I am trying to "brew" the Geany editor with Homebrew using different GTK engines on Mac OSX (Mountain Lion) in order to give it a Mac'ish look.

To accomplish this, I have successfully brewed the following packages (along with their dependencies):

  • geany
  • gtk-engines
  • gtk-chtheme

Following the readme included with gtk-engines, I've added the GTK_PATH variable in my ~/.profile file:

export GTK_PATH=/usr/local/Cellar/gtk-engines/2.20.2/lib/gtk-2.0/

But without success. Am I missing something basic I should know when using Homebrew? Should GTK theming/using different engines be done using different Homebrew parameters, or my approach is lacking proper configuration?
