I hate reaching for the mouse but I always have to do it to escape from a text box. Does anyone know how to solve my "huge" problem? I'm on Windows 8

In what context? Does [Tab] not work? – James Aug 1 '13 at 13:35

Please explain the OS you are using (Windows, Linux, OSX, Haiku, what?), and the context you are talking about. A pdf reader? A web browser? In most cases, Tab or Esc should work. – terdon Aug 1 '13 at 14:52

Windows. No, Tab usually just puts four spaces in the text (although some places like Gmail work) and Esc usually doesn't work either, for example, if it is a window in a program it will usually just close the window without saving and pressing Enter will only add a line to the text – Thiago Aug 1 '13 at 16:27

@Tom: Pressing the [Tab] key is the standard method for moving between fields and I have seen few programs where it does not - normally it is only text editors that use if for aligning text. For instance, it works anywhere on this page. – James Aug 2 '13 at 15:33

An example of where it doesn't work would be helpful. – James Aug 2 '13 at 15:43
