About a month ago trying to SSH into servers (various ones, from various physical locations) started taking around 40 seconds to resolve.

I tried tracing the problem, but without much success. I know it's not much to go on, but I'll be very happy to provide any useful information. For now, here's the anonymized debug output of running ssh -vvv someuser@000.000.000.000.

I'm splitting the debug output into two, to indicate where it hangs.

debug3: authmethod_lookup password
debug3: remaining preferred: ,password
debug3: authmethod_is_enabled password

Any clue how to even begin to debug this?

Thank you so much!

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

Are you using a username/password or private key? – Ryan O'Hara Aug 1 '13 at 18:45

I have three private keys, but I tried completely removing all of them and this still takes this long. – Yuval Aug 1 '13 at 18:47
