I recently bought a laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled on it. The laptop is an Acer Aspire V7-482PG-6662, just in case you need to know.

I wanted to replace the hard drive with an ssd, so I attempted to migrate everything to the ssd using cloning software. After cloning, I clumsily deleted everything from the original hard drive. Therefore, I do not have a backup of the original system that came with my laptop. Also, my attempt at migrating the OS to the SSD ended up not working because I later found out the software I used wasn't compatible with Windows 8. So instead, I tried to reinstall Windows 8 (non-Pro 64-bit version) on my SSD.

After installing Windows, I got an error saying: "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and hit any key. Select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media."

I am trying to install Windows 8 using UEFI. I think I've followed the right procedures (converting the drive to gpt, etc.) but this error tells me I've done something wrong.

Please help me.... I've been looking online for 2 days without much sleep...

Exactly what 'procedures' did you perform while trying to install it? Did you try fixing the MBR yet? –  Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Aug 9 '13 at 18:10

I found online that MBR isn't related when you're using UEFI to install Windows 8. But I tried anyway using bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /scanos, and bootrec /rebuildbcd. No luck, same error. As for procedures, I made a UEFI thumb drive for the Windows 8 installer... Made sure BIOS was set to UEFI... Booted to the thumb drive... Converted my ssd to gpt... Then I installed Windows normally. –  Reyrey Aug 9 '13 at 18:15

And you've ensure no other HDD's or USB drives are attached at boot? –  Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Aug 9 '13 at 18:17

Yeah. Just my thumb drive with Windows 8 on it and my ssd inside my laptop. –  Reyrey Aug 9 '13 at 18:18
