Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm not having any issues regarding particular icons, but simply the entirety of the notification area is missing from my task bar. Going into the 'Notification Area Icons' I find that all of the icons and behaviors that should be there are simply missing, and that going into 'Turn System Icons On or Off' leads me to a screen where I can turn on and off the clock, but all other options (Volume, Network, etc.) are grayed out.

It is mentioned at the top of the screen that 'Some settings are managed by your system administrator', which makes very little sense, as my account is the only one on the box and is set to Administrator privileges. Any ideas?
