I've been using xinput --set-prop to select my preferred mouse properties in Ubuntu 12.04. Specifically, I'm using xinput to specify how quickly my mouse moves.

I have the following line in my .bashrc:
xinput --set-prop 'Evoluent VerticalMouse 4' 'Device Accel Constant Deceleration' 2.0

When I do source ~/.bashrc or directly call my xinput --set-prop command, my mouse does the right thing -- it moves at the speed that I prefer. But, after a while, the mouse cursor seems to "freeze" for a moment, and then the mouse acceleration reverts to its default setting. Calling xinput --set-prop again fixes it for a while, then it goes back to the default setting.

What might be going wrong?

Is there a more robust / stable way to set my mouse properties?
