I am looking to get a palmtop with touch screen support. It only needs to be able to use wireless net to check some data on a website.

I am looking to get a large number so the best option should be relatively cheap.

Ideally I would like it to bootup and only allow access to this one site. No using apps or any other part of the OS on the device, is this possible?

It has to be stable also, this should be able to stay connected to the web 24/7.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Even better the IPod Touch, then you dont need to worry about contracts.

Put a Button on the Home Screen to your website. Cant restict other usage though :(

That's quite a great idea, I never thought of that. It would be good to try and restrict other use, or agt least have no downloading etc, though this will be in the contract with the clients. The iPod will give a "cool" look to things too. – ddd Oct 30 '09 at 20:26
You can set limits on what's allowed, presumably for child-protection purposes. That could be used to prevent app downloads. – Torben Gundtofte-Bruun Nov 16 '09 at 16:12

AlwaysInnovating have a nice ARM-based 'Netbook' with touchscreen boasting 10 hrs battery life. Bigger than a palmtop, but an interesting concept at an attractive price:

The tablet-only variant (as shown above) is selling for $299.

Tablet and keyboard are selling for $399.

Do they list the weight of the tablet part by itself? I only saw the weight of the netbook assembly as a whole. – Dan Neely Nov 13 '09 at 19:36

The Touch (not iPhone) is around $200. Pretty cheap for a mobile web device.
