Hi,

I am always writing small notes in notepad (copy/pasting bits, writing down email/sites i need to remember) but at the end of the day i normally just don't bother saving. Is there any program that will let me store notes quickly and easily (think like those sticky notes in Windows 7 - but be able to save them/view easily). preferable plain text too so i can copy/paste code there

OneNote springs to mind.

And what's wrong with the Sticky Notes? They are saved automatically even.

Check out Tomboy Notes for Windows! You can categorize them and search them among many other features.

Check out Evernote. Clients for most OS's and mobiles -- even a web interface. Your notes are (almost) always nearby.

The free plan is reasonably generous too.

ActionOutline - call it with alt-A, save and minimize to tray with alt-S (can be changed).

Simple, easy, lemon easy, and does everything you asked for. Not free thought (although the is a lite version ... but I've been using the normal one for so long, I don't know the difference anymore).

There is also CintaNotes - simple, easy, free ! Notes inside it can be taggable and searchable.

You could use an online version such as Google Notebook. You can create multiple notes, grouped under headings and search them.

OK, no reason you'll like this, but org-mode for Emacs is a great note keeper and outliner. It's Emacs so it's cross platform, and it's also got geekiness in spades (Emacs has an elaborate system of keyboard shortcut sequences that make beginners' eyes pop out and roll across the floor). But it does more juiciness with plain text than any other note-taker/outliner, by a country mile. Because it's plain text, it's also fully accessible from other text editors, and usable with version control systems. It's under active development by one of the most amazing developers in the Open Source community, and has a great community. It's not for everyone, really it's not, but I can't live without it.

UberNote is a good web-based note taking tool. Useful if you have internet access wherever you need to take notes.

For anyone into emacs: org-mode is an excellent package for organizing and storing notes.
