I am looking to stream audio over Ethernet to some other computers in the house, so that all of the speakers in parts of my house play the same song in sync.

Specifically,I want to stream my audio output, any sounds - sounding from browser or media player or skype and other programs should be streamed and sounding on the other computers as well. I know how to achieve this with Virtual Audio Cable as long as the streaming software allows streaming from audio device.

I tried using Icecast but there is a 1-2 second delay and it sounds very bad. Any ideas on how to achieve realtime streaming (udp I suppose?)

You didn't mention what OS you're using. I've done it with VLS/VLC (years ago). Following seems to be a description of that: forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62296 –  joat Aug 25 '13 at 14:48
