Those who have been running Win7 since the early builds (myself included) are eager to know what's coming next. While we may for the time being have little more than hearsay and hints, let's collect our collective SO knowledge on the next consumer version of Windows.

How would anyone know anything about it? Win 7 was released to the General Public 1 week ago! |

Almost nothing. Most thoughts are speculation at this point. The most recent rumor was about Windows 8 being 128-bit, which I think most people have debunked, and may have been a misinterpretation about Itanium processors if I remember correctly. The only news that I've seen from Microsoft that I'd trust at this point is saying that Windows 8 will be only 64-bit, and they intended Windows 7 to be the last 32-64 bit combination. This is part of the reason they're pushing manufacturers to only put Windows 7 64-bit on new computers, as this ensures the public will be ready for a 64-bit release without any surprises. But until Windows 8 is further in development, this can't be confirmed either. |

The only thing we know for sure is that it won't work correctly until SP1. |

kwe : you know that because? I have used it throughout the Beta and RC phases and can't really find more then one or two things that prompted me to send in comments (hence being in the programs). You are merely repeating the old adage that has been around for many years in the IT industry, i.e. never release software as Version 1.0. |

I still dont understand why they dont just fix 32bit and 64bit XP/W2003?? Just re-write it from scratch and dump all bloat and call it Windows2010 10€/PC and Windows2010Server 100€. Next year do it again, Windows2011 10€/PC and Windows2011Server 100€. And let people decide if they want to keep thier investment with updates or go for the slightly faster 2011 with built-in updates and more drivers included. It's also time to switch to a sane security model. It's common knowledge, both BSD and Linux figured out how to stay virus immune. UAC=bad sudo=sane and so forth. As for Win8sp0 in reality i guess Microsoft is trying to replace the underlying layers and just float win32 and win64 ontop to try to make it less insecure and less bloated. Almost kinda like WINE on Linux. But with bloatware and bugware and malware offcourse. And payware. |
