Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I want to fileshare with a small group of friends. We decided on DC++ (unless someone has a better suggestion). We would like to have most of our traffic be over a secure SSH tunnel. I know that the DC++ hub would need its port forwarded in the tunnel (default=411), but would I also need to create tunnels for traffic and searching? I'm not really familiar with how DC++ works at the network level, I just know that it needs: 1. a hub port, 2. a transfer port, 3. an encrypted transfer port, and 4. a search port. If DC++ is truly a "direct connection," then each individual user would need a tunnel between themselves, correct? Or, is the DC++ encrypted transfer security sufficient?
