Possible Duplicate:
I can’t shut down my Computer with Ubuntu!

Hi everyone, I'm using Ubuntu for 3 months now, yesterday I updated Ubuntu to Karmic Koala, but now the PC doesn't shut down, when I shut down, Ubuntu shows the logged out screen with its centralized white-logo and the shows a command-like screen and doesn't shut down. I use Ubuntu in dual-boot with Windows Vista and to definitely shut down the PC I have to force the restart and log into Vista and then shut down through Windows. Please help me.

Here the message Ubuntu shows me when I try to shut down the PC:

Stopping Kernel Oops catching Service Kerneloops
Shutting down ALSA...
Asking all remaining processes to terminate...
Deconfiguring network interfaces...
Deactivating swap
3840.100071] Buffer I/O error on device loop, logical block 4419642 |

please help.

Looks like there's a compatibility issue with your hardware. Use the reset switch (or power button) for the time being and hope that the next kernel rev fixes the issue. Not much that can be done unless you're able to get your hands dirty and troubleshoot the problem from the kernel level.
