I enabled telnet access on an off-the-shelf Netgear router. I successfully logged in via telnet but there was no shell and the connection closed after a couple of minutes no matter what I tried. The log indicated no response from the server, besides successfully connecting and terminating the connection. I understand that some of these routers have BusyBox installed but apparently not this one. My question is what can I do, if anything, to get a shell working, short of installing custom firmware like OpenWrt?
