for some reason this .png image won't open in my terminal. i keep getting these responses:

lkthomas@unix12:~/private$ eog snippet.png
Cannot open display:
Run 'eog --help' to see a full list of available command line options.
lkthomas@unix12:~/private$ display snippet.png
display: unable to open X server `' @ display.c/DisplayImageCommand/420.
lkthomas@unix12:~/private$ gpicview snippet.png
-bash: gpicview: command not found
lkthomas@unix12:~/private$ qiv snippet.png
-bash: qiv: command not found
lkthomas@unix12:~/private$ gthumb snippet.png
Cannot open display:
Run 'gthumb --help' to see a full list of available command line options.

As you can see I tried a lot of different things but none of them worked! Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do.

Do any of those commands work with other images (or types of images)? You may need to run export DISPLAY=:0.0 (or at least check what is there with echo $DISPLAY). –  nerdwaller Aug 30 '13 at 18:31
