Does anyone know a way to make it so that hyperlinks to local files automatically update in shortcuts and other files?

For example, suppose you have a file C:\Users[User Name]\temp1.docx and you have shortcuts to that file or links in say another word document to that file. If you then change the name of that file, e.g. to temp2.docx, the links are broken. Is there a way to make the links automatically update?

@bummi Not sure how that's related to the OP's problem. The problem is inside Word. AFAIK, Word can't be aware of changes in the filesystem. Unless someone somewhere made that program (and that would be a titanic endeavor), the best thing is to not rename them. This however raises a question: why do you have hyperlinks inside a Word document that point to files? – Doktoro Reichard Aug 31 '13 at 21:03
