I have a Logitech C615.
I am assuming that if I configure mencoder just right, or perhaps v4l2, mencoder will use the native hardware compression of the web cam, and not try and decode and re-compress in a different format, which appears to be currently taxing the cpu. Plus, I would rather have the quality of the native hardware accelerated compression anyway. 99% sure that this camera supports H.264 compression in hardware, but of course the product specs are less than enlightening.
My question: How do I probe which compressions methods are supported in hardware? I would imagine that I need to dig through /sys or /proc, but not sure where to start. How do I ensure that I am using one of those methods for a supported resolution? (ie, no recompression is happening?)
Running Raspbian GNU/Linux 7 on my RPi.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!!
