I've heard rumors that the MacBook Pro uses higher quality parts than other manufacturers. Especially the motherboards which are supposed to be made in another part of the Foxconn factory than "everything else".

rumours, that's what they are, although well maintained by Apple. or do you think giants like Intel or nVidia set up specialized factories for overpriced niche products such as Apple computers? :) – Molly7244 Nov 1 '09 at 18:00

Actually, there is a special intel CPU in Mac Air, so yes, they do in a way... :P – sYnfo Nov 1 '09 at 18:12

Any high-end notebook probably has better components than low-end notebooks. Just saying… – Tadeusz A. Kadłubowski Nov 1 '09 at 18:47

Well, apple has not a very great motherboard reputation. Not at Gigabyte desktop standards at least. Maybe better than Acer or so, but design is more important than function at Apple quite often.

No. People say Macs break less, but it is very hard to judge.

Typically, Macs are about 7-10% of the market (I think, upon a recent poll), which means that on average only one in ten repairs should be a mac.

That being said, I have to say, probably around 2-3 in every 10 jobs I have is a mac, which means that they have a higher failure rate.

I have certainly seen my fair share of Mac Book Pros, but I have no proof that they are more reliable than any other Macs.

Maybe people repair macs more than windows laptops? It's certainly cheapish to get a new laptop, but a new macbook? Expensive! How far this'd swing the statistics, however, I've no idea. – Phoshi Nov 21 '09 at 23:07
