I'm typing up some math scratchwork in Word so I can track my progress on some homework. I'm having a problem where Word completely locks up and requires a close/restart about once for every 1/4 page I type up. The document's about 1.5 pages long now. Most of the time it brings back my work to its state before the close, but it's becoming highly irritating.

Any ideas what I can do? This is intolerably bad.

Windows 7 x64 Enterprise, Office 2007 Enterprise, all Windows/Office updates current.

Word is not too good when you have too many equations. Instead of using the equation editor, try the Microsoft Equation object. Insert > Object > Microsoft Equation. That should help!!

The Microsoft Equation object is worthless - the only reason I would ever use Word 2007 for math is because they finally replaced it. – 280Z28 Nov 1 '09 at 23:36
It works for me and am using it on Word 07. Why down vote..that was just a suggestion??? – Alok Nov 2 '09 at 13:31
+1 This is correct. I've never had a problem with Word Equations (even on Mac). Sounds like your install is screwed. Try formatting or using another computer. Failing that try an older version of Word, or better still, pen and paper ;) – ing0 Nov 23 '10 at 14:31
