I recommend KMPlayer.

I prefer SMplayer - mainly for the MPlayer backend + it can resume playing from wherever you stopped - for any number of files.

Before I discovered VLC, I used PowerDVD. They used to have a free version, not sure about now. Check it out, it might be what you want.

Songbird Can handle all audio, can sync most devices, built on mozilla, has a built in browser (firefox) and has tons of Firefox addons. Soon supporting video.
