My MAC OS version 10.6.8 keeps shutting down. It shuts down about every 15 minutes. I've tried installing the firmware update, doing a SMC reset, I checked the battery and it says normal.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Is it over heating?

I do have a fan plugged in but the programs I am using are very large programs (etc Maya).

I would suggest including more details about what you are doing when this occurs and any precursors to the issue occurring. For more information on asking good questions please see How to Ask – 50-3 Sep 9 '13 at 2:13
Do you have any temperature monitors? Usually random shut downs are either kernel panics (you would know, as it would have a grey screen with that posted), heat (it will randomly shut down), or dirty/insufficient power. – nerdwaller Sep 9 '13 at 3:55
check the console app for anything interesting going on at the time of these shutdowns. – Neil Neyman Sep 9 '13 at 5:00
