I am trying to fix an Asus L50ij laptop.

Symptoms: lost all battery, wouldn’t turn on on power cable.

My first guess was the power jack, because the transformer was good. I opened it up but the power jack was OK. However, I found the b4 diode was blown. I got a new diode, replaced it and now the symptoms are:

  • Won’t start on power cable only or with a discharged battery in.
  • With a charged battery it starts.

If the battery is taken out it stays running. If a discharged battery is put in while on, the battery light blinks.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

ThisVTC because repairing one specific laptop with one specific electrical problem is a too specific problem which will not help other users of this site. I hope you can rewrite it a bit to make it more generic, but I am not sure how. question appears to be off-topic because it is about –  Hennes Sep 11 '13 at 13:37
