Studio 17 has:

Intel i7, 4GB RAM, 17.3" 900 display, 320GB@7200 HDD, Dual-Layer 8x, 1GB ATI 4650, 9-cell battery for $1324 + tax

Vaio has:

Core2Duo P8700, 4GB RAM, 16.4" 1080p display, 320GB@7200 HDD, Blu-Ray/RW, 1GB ATI 4650, Large battery (5.5 hrs) for $1439 + tax

Dell has a bigger screen and i7 CPU...Vaio has smaller but better screen and a read/write Blu-Ray, but an older CPU.

Which would you recommend? What I really want is 16"+ display, min 4GB RAM, 7200 HDD, HDMI out, a decent battery, and Windows Ultimate [for warranty purposes, since if I get Win 7 Home and upgrade and need support, Dell won't cover it since it's not the original OS]

Important point: what do you want to do with it? – Gnoupi Nov 2 at 16:34
What models do you mean? – ToreTrygg Nov 2 at 16:39
As Gnoupi mentioned - edit your question to reflect your typical usage. – Sathya Nov 2 at 16:42
On second thought, this question is too subjective as such. It seems you narrowed down to two laptops, according to their specifications. So there is no technical, objective choice. You are asking if people prefer Dell or Sony only. Avoid subjective questions (superuser.com/faq). Eventually rework the question to describe what you need precisely, to get objective answers. – Gnoupi Nov 2 at 16:46

It's impossible to objectively answer this question; questions of this type are too open ended and usually lead to confrontation and argument.

You can compare laptops on this site. My opinion - if you want more performance, than Dell, if you want style - Sony.

I vote for Sony because it's sexy.

For me, the good-looking horse is better than fast donkey.

I'd prefer DELL between these two models...

Explain why, or you bring no value to the question. Stay objective. – Gnoupi Nov 2 at 16:24
