Still: welcome at Super User! (But, please read the FAQs.) – Arjan van Bentem Nov 2 at 16:49
@Arjan: Are you implying that I'm not "welcomy" enough? :-] – Gnoupi Nov 2 at 16:54
@Gnoupi, oh no, I was not implying that at all! I commented after I voted to close, knowing that my name will soon show... But indeed, my comment was not very clear, shame on me. @RogerMuure, and everybody else: welcome and love from all of us! :-) – Arjan van Bentem Nov 2 at 17:14
We still can't do it without Diago ;-) – Arjan van Bentem Nov 2 at 17:37

It's impossible to objectively answer this question; questions of this type are too open ended and usually lead to confrontation and argument.

This is a little bit of a subjective post, which aren't allowed on SuperUser.

Personally I highly recommend it over Vista and especially XP. There are a ton of huge improvements, and small tweaks to enhance the experience.

Still, you should form your own opinion.

I always like to start from the manufacturer's own promo page. They give you a good idea of the biggest features of the OS.

Then, after you know what the main features are, it's time to research whether they work as advertised. This is a great link which aggregates a lot of the major reviews: 27 Takes on Windows 7.

As a side note, Windows 7 has been reviewed time and again and many have declared it as the best operating system Microsoft has ever shipped. Ever.
