My laptop freezes often, I cannot even press CTRL + ALT + DEL key to check what process is causing the freeze/hang. Mouse pointer is also not moving. There is no specific pattern, any application like Excel or Internet Explorer or Chrome.
My system is setup as follows:
HDD C: 300GB, D: drive 70 GB
Formatted my laptop twice with the windows 7 64 bit OS, then installed the software in the following sequence, MSE, all security patches, ms-office 2010, security patches, Skype
Run full scan of hard drives C & D with MSE
Checked hardware test using HP tool for the following, RAM, HDD, board, USB ports, heat sink, fan cleaned
Also checked Windows event viewer - I don't see any errors that occurred prior to the abrupt freeze of my laptop. I have to power off and then bring it up again. This is what I am currently doing.
I have tried running Fix-it tool selecting appropriate option.
Installed Windows Performance analyser, it is installed successfully but when I tried executing the command in command prompt I got an error as follows
C:\Users\username> xperf -start perf!GeneralProfiles.InBuffer && timeout -1 xperf: error: Failed to start profile: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057).
C:\Users\username>xperf -start perf!GeneralProfiles.InBuffer xperf: error: Failed to start profile: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057).
Could you help me in tracing what is causing the problem of my laptop freezing randomly?
