recently all of a sudden, our Dell laptop stopped working properly: - USB ports stopped working - LAN and WLAN stopped working - the system got really slow for a while (meaning during a few sessions over several days) In device manager, all those components showed the yellow question mark.
No software had been installed or changed, no virus/malware was found in numerous scans. Reinstallation of the appropriate drivers didn't solve the problem at first, however the USB problem was eventually resolved simply by right clicking in hardware manager and removing it, next system restart it was back and working.
Anyway, after a few days we now decided to format c: and reinstall XP to solve the network issues. However directly after the second clean install from original Dell CDs, several entries in device manager show the yellow question marks: - audio - ethernet - wireless and some more I forgot. Also the FN-key combinations don't seem to work. We already ran the Dell resource package setup but the functionality does not come back.
So the question is, is it possible that there is some sort of HW error that does not really produce an error but above symptoms?
