Everyone I know has some annoyance issue with windows (whichever version).

http://superuser.com/questions/5564/whats-the-worst-windows-annoyance-in-your-opinion

What addon or configuration option do you consider essential for making windows less annoying?

Some of mine are:

  • Tweak UI (to kill all the unwanted minor config hassles in windows XP)
  • Auto-It (to automate rote tasks that a completely Object Oriented GUI would be smart enough to do if it existed)

KatMouse - Makes it so the scroll wheel will make the window which is under the cursor scroll, not the window which has focus.

Strange thing is that despite what many Mac fans think, Windows users often cannot even begin to use OS X. Likewise with some Mac users on Windows. (And yes, I know your post was not to be taken seriously.) – person-b Jul 17 '09 at 11:34

The question was "what addon or configuration...to make windows less annoying." I understand that your solution may get a popular response, but ultimately it doesn't qualify. – Jonathan Sampson Jul 17 '09 at 11:37
When I saw the title it was "What is your favorite windows annoyance buster" so I think it qualifies :-) – Bruce McLeod Jul 17 '09 at 13:46
@person-b I agree. I switch back and forth all the time so I find it easy, but a lot of really smart computer users and devs find the mac very bizzare the first time they use it. – Bruce McLeod Jul 17 '09 at 13:48

Group Policy Editor can be useful sometimes

Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc
