When I am waking my computer from sleep (or just from having the screen turned off after not having used it for a while) first the screen comes on, and then it asks for my password, and then I can begin typing it in.

On my Ubuntu machine, one of the things I like is that in this same circumstance, I can just start typing the password when the screen is off, and when the screen comes on, it used what I typed as the password. Often by the time the screen comes on I have finished typing the password and hitting enter so I never even see the password prompt. Is there a way to get similar behavior in OS X? I'm using Mountain Lion
