Now that google notebook does not allow new users to sign up are there any similar online note taking applications available?

There are quite a few! I was poking around for this a few days ago.

I personally like Evernote and though it's not quite a note-taking service, is one of my favorite websites. :-).

+1 Gee! that is really great list of links – Ram Nov 7 '09 at 9:18

Try Evernote. This is better than Google Notebook. You can write notes from your phone, put in pictures, and lots of other cool stuff.

+1 good tool. I'm using it! – ToreTrygg Nov 5 '09 at 12:31
I'd add that Evernote has a google notebook import too, but then I don't know if it's perhaps too late for that anyway. – izb Nov 5 '09 at 13:26
Evernote has the added benefit of having a desktop application for offline viewing and note creating, as well as allowing many more different types of notes/content to be saved. I switched from Google Notebook and haven't wanted to go back. – Millhouse Nov 5 '09 at 13:34

There are a variety of ways to store information from bookmarks / urls, free form text, and you get to arrange the notes like sticky notes. You can create multiple pages of tabbed information too.

Well worth a look.

That's how I like all of my applications. – Stephen Nov 5 '09 at 15:56

The best one would be Google Tasks. It's easy to use and has an iPhone and Android client, if you want.
