Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed Fedora on a machine which run Ubuntu and prior to that, arch. I used the same user on all distributions. When I try to login with this user, I can the wall paper and the mouse and nothing else. I can move the mouse, but nothing else. I removed any folder I could think about/find on the web

.cache
.gnome
.config
.compiz
.config_ubntu #I was desperate
.dbus
.gconf
.gnome2
.local
.mission-control
.npm

I could create a new folder and copy anything to it but I want to know what went wrong. How can I get back my old user folder?
