After a long time, I was consolidating multiple personal folders (pst) int one PST file in outlook 2007. This process worked without any hitch.

I had 2 old PST files - personal-2006.pst. Outlook Mail folder ("Personal-2006") was pointing to this PST file. While cleaning up the data, I deleted (shift-deleted) the pst file. At the time of deleting file Outlook was not running. File was successfully deleted.

When I started outlook next time, I still see mail folder "Personal-2006" in outlook. So I thought, I can close the file. This i didn't anticipated before deleting the pst file. Now when I try to close this mail folder, Outlook gives error that "personal-2006.pst" file path is not valid. Due to this I can't remove the Mail folder ("PErsonal-2006") from outlook folders.

  • I tried creating a other PST file and renaming it to personal-2006.pst. but that doesn't work. Outlook says file is not valid.
  • I tried running file recovery software but none of the file recovery software can find .pst files in the outlook.

Let me know if you have resolved similar issue.

Go to File -> Data File Management. Find the Personal-2006 and remove it. If it is the Default, you will have to change the default to another file, restart, and then remove it.
