I try using GIMP I think it is quite similar to Adobe Photoshop.

But I wondering if there are other alternatives tools for example I find using fireworks to create design is extremely easy and effective.

Have a look at GIMPshop if you don't like GIMP user interface and/or are used to Photoshop's one:

GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP.

It shares all GIMP's advantages, including the long feature list and customisability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program's interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop's, adjusts the program's terminology to match Adobe's, and, in the Windows version, uses a plugin called 'Deweirdifier' to combine the application's numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages. While GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plugins, all GIMP's own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. remain available.

Due to the changes to the interface, many Photoshop tutorials can be followed in GIMPshop unchanged, and most others can be adapted for GIMPshop users with minimal effort.

For Fireworks, check Adobe Fireworks alternatives on http://alternativeto.net (which I prefer over http://www.osalt.com/).

The Gimp is the only viable alternative.

I like the gimp, but I've had cases where artists gave me files that the gimp couldn't handle. As long as everyone on a team has the gimp, it's a good solution. But artists will often demand to use Photoshop. – Nosredna Jun 19 '09 at 23:02

Gimp isn't really viable compared to photoshop, which is unfortunate because I would use it if it was. – Kekoa Jun 19 '09 at 23:06
I've done some serious stuff in GIMP, including magazine ads and web banners. Then again, I'm not an artist, meaning I never learned PhotoShop. I've been told that its hard to switch from PhotoShop to GIMP. – CarlF Nov 6 '09 at 5:33

Well, before the question gets closed, try Inkscape. It's more of a replacement for Adobe Illustrator, but if you're using the more vector-y bits of Fireworks it should treat you nicely. Also, the GUI isn't quite as insane as the GIMP.

+1 for mentioning Gimp's insane GUI – TwistedAphid Jun 19 '09 at 23:01

It's practically a cliche to rip on GIMP's interface at this point, but that still doesn't change the fact that only having one degree in computer science is NOT ENOUGH DEGREES to make GIMP do anything. (I hear there's a multi-PhD on the east coast that can actually draw in GIMP, but I'm not sure I belive it.) – Electrons_Ahoy Jun 19 '09 at 23:04
