I'm currently in the process of building a small yet powerful machine for my development tasks. It's meant as a replacement to my old 2009 Macbook Pro (Core 2 Duo whew!).
Since I don't use the "portable" factor of the laptop, I decided to go back to a desktop computer.
I'm doing mainly PHP development in PHPStorm, Game development in Unity3D and a few virtualization tasks with VMWare products. I use several other big IDEs on a daily basis as well. Finally, I run local development servers from time to time.
Every year, I buy new CPUs and I always wonder the same: Do I really need all that extra horse power for my day-to-day development tasks?
Anybody would be kind and share his opinion and experience with both? I know that i7 are useless for gamers and such but for my case would it be really beneficial to pay the extra cost for the i7?
Here's what I have so far on my wishlist: https://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=23513085
Thanks and have a nice day!
